VISTA Supervisor

Organizational Profile

YWCA Northwest Louisiana (NWLA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

 

Purpose  

Development, recruitment and supervision of the AmeriCorps VISTA program for the YWCA host site and subsites.

 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Become familiar with all aspects of the AmeriCorps VISTA program and educate others about VISTA.

  2. Provide ongoing training and supervision of all VISTAs which includes:

    • Weekly and monthly meetings with VISTAs and site supervisors to review VAD goals, assess progress, address needs, etc.

    • Site visits to all host sites at least monthly

    • Developing tracking systems for statistics and information for AmeriCorps reports and collecting monthly reports from VISTAs and sites

    • Completing monthly and quarterly reports for YWCA and AmeriCorps

  3. Recruit for new VISTAs to fill open positions at the VISTA sites by: Researching recruitment opportunities locally and nationally including;

    • Posting position announcements at all available outlets including websites and job boards

    • Reviewing and updating VAD’s (VISTA Assignment Description) for accuracy and consistency with AmeriCorps guidelines

    • Communicating with and screening applicants and setting up interviews with candidates

  4. Completing all AmeriCorps selection process procedures and communicating with AmeriCorps Portfolio Manager. Work with YWCA Executive Director and site supervisors in selecting candidates for open VISTA positions.  

  5. Develop and conduct orientation and training with new VISTAs as they begin their service.

  6. Ensure that AmeriCorps guidelines and project requirements are being met and followed by VISTAs and site supervisors.

  7. Meet monthly with AmeriCorps Portfolio Manager, attend trainings and meetings, keep current on AmeriCorps program information and grant requirements. 

  8.  Assist with AmeriCorps grant requirements, renewals, and grants site for grant management. 

  9. Follow YWCA policies and procedures and mission, participate in YWCA staff meetings, and work with YWCA staff as a team.

Professional Qualifications/Requirements:  
  • ​Supervisory experience required - minimum 2 years 

  • Administrative work experience needed - minimum 2 years, preferably in non-profit programs 

  • Non-profit experience preferred; experience with government programs such as AmeriCorps helpful

  • Good written and oral communication skills needed. Ability to work well with others. 

  • Up to date technology skills needed, use of Google documents, Microsoft Office, social media experience needed

  • Reliable transportation needed.

 

Reports to: YWCA Executive Director

 

Hours:  20 – 25 hours per week

 

Salary range:  $25,000 – $27,000
